Imogen Gay

Our CEO and training director

I’ve worked in production for more than 20 years and have a wealth of varied experience. I started out as an intern and assistant for London-based independent production companies including:

  • Dan Films
  • Wildgaze Films
  • Pathé
  • Adventure Pictures

After three years in-house, I turned my attention to the production office as a runner on independent films across the UK.

Since then, I’ve moved my way up the ladder, and now work as a freelance line producer and production manager across a range of HETV and film budget scales. My credits include:

  • The Witcher (Season 3 & 5)
  • Top Boy
  • Suspect: The Shooting of Jean-Charles De Menezes
  • Behind Her Eyes
  • Peaky Blinders
  • Two Kids

Now based in West Yorkshire, I’m focusing my efforts on running The Production Training Company while continuing freelance production work.

Our history

The Production Training Company was created in response to a growing demand for production office training resources. The growth in the UK HETV industry created an unprecedented demand for crew. This led to a trend of rapid promotion across all departments, causing some crew members to feel underqualified, undertrained or under-supported in senior roles.

Our training is rooted in skills-based learning. Coupled with demonstrations of practical production tasks, we focus on the context and nuance needed in real-world filming environments.

Our first one-day training course was delivered in 2019. It covered common skills including:

– Production Office Set-up
– Filing
– Insurance
– Distribution
– Cast Bookings
– Crew Bookings
– Progress Reports

This course was delivered for ScreenSkills seven times before it evolved into our five-day Production Coordinator and Production Secretary courses, with more than 1,000 participants to date.

We have delivered training for

  • Production Guild UK
  • BECTU Vision
  • Netflix
  • Northern Ireland Screen
  • Keshet TV
  • BBC
  • ITV
  • Mammoth Screen
  • SISTER
  • Expectation TV
  • Screen Yorkshire
  • Drama Republic
  • Warner Brothers Crew HQ
  • National Film & Television School

Attending this course is the best thing I’ve ever done for myself. Being taught by such experienced, knowledgeable course leaders is beyond invaluable. I feel so much more confident in my role now, and can happily take determined action to STEP UP on my next job.

This course has given me a great overall insight to the job role of a Production Manager, and I feel more confident now that I have the knowledge and understanding of what the requirements of the role are and how I may achieve this.
